JimB: Has contacted Bob Pratt and has spoken to LTU professor Dom Perez, Environmental Design, regarding conceptual development of property and perhaps connecting to our NSF ITEST STEM Grant initiative.
We will attempt to schedule an initial meeting perhaps on-site to further the conversation, conceptualize possibilities, etc.
Thanks,
Jim
Jim Bates has set-up a meeting scheduled for Friday, December 21, 2007 at 9:00AM with Bob Pratt to discuss the various "sustainable energy" possibilities the LTU location may represent. We may meet on-site.
Addtionally, we have an invitation to visit the Birmingham Groves High School "solar energy" practicum of which Bob and Jim are currently engaged on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 3:00PM. This may be an opportunity to explore commonalities of purpose and practice.
Best,
Jim
Spoke with JimB and was informed that Mr. Pratt would be unable to attend the Groves meeting due to prior committments (Holiday family).
JimB also mentioned that he was committed to attending and facilitating the student presentation. We discussed the possibilities regarding creating a compelling student-led engagment opportunity. JimB contacted the librarian-media specialist to ascertain what "digital assets" might be available to facilitate the meeting.
It was determined that there would be a laptop with internet access and a projector (interactive white-board exists but technical difficulties prevent counting on its use) in the library meeting room which accomodates 30 people.
We further discussed the intention, student-participatory executions, etc.
JimB will investigate (Google) some Solar Energy related destinations, video assets, etc. in preparation for the meeting.
Addtionally, we will have the students develop a GROVES Solar Energy "blog-site" as part of the practicum to utilize for "post-meeting" ideas, exchanges, discussions, inquiry's, etc.
Students will also capture some "digital pictures" during our meeting to enrich the "blog-site" development, etc.
Please ADD any comments and or ideas that you feel would build student-engagment capacity.
Best,
Jim
GROVES Solar Energy Practicum:
Perhaps we should introduce the LTU Sustainable Energy Design Project to these students as a way of generating student-led creativity and innovation.
In other words "hey guy's (Socratic Method)....what would you do with this LTU environmental asset? What "sustainable energy" conceptual ideas and/or practical ideas could you imagine/create that would engage and infrom young people such as yourselves. No idea to large or to small.
Just a thought......
Best,
Jim
