Very enlightening video. I now better understand the term communities of practice. The value of tinkering is the process of creative investigation which brings into play imagination and innovation. As people learn that they have these tools available to them, these tools that can allow them to explore ideas and be part of a culture of lifelong learning. I am begining to understand the potential that tools such as open source have to build culture. It's also very practical and resource conserving to be able to share use of expensive equipment likethe scanning electron microscope and to be able to then publish your findings in a peer review atmosphere. This is powerful stuff that has the capacity to build self confidence that further enhances the individual to pursue the next plateau.
