The inventor described in some detail the workings of these machines including the brains of the "animals" which are binary step counters. Now could you think of a better way to teach math to a child.(no matter what their age may be)This is something that we have to offer to student artists to see what they come up with. I would really like to play with all this also.Personally I could create something that would "walk over the water". That could capture even the sunday school crowd for sure. Now that I know what to save all my scrap conduit for besides wind chimes, my mind is off to the races!

P.S. WHAT would this student-centered Studio-Laboratory look like at the MI STEM CENTER?
Here is a comment I made on students 2.0 blog in regards to that question. I say that because operations in the MI STEM Center will take place globally with one foot so to speak being connected thru the web in virtual reality and to some extent the outcomes will manifest in the STEM Center. This somewhat follows Lindsey's idea made in the post "Youth Net" on 2.0 where artists can collaborate by adding component parts of a project online and having these funneled thru a portal to where some person(s) would bring together the ideas to reality or at least to it's fruition.

You folks have a handle on making the changes needed to create not only great learning opportunities but you bring with those ideas the energy and the reality that this is a 24/7/365 endeavor not to be confused with the learning in the silo education. I really like the concept of creating the virtual meeting place for various people to bring their ideas to and have someone or a group of people manifest the idea into a formative structure. How might you envision similar wind powered machines to the ones shown in this video be manifested in that type of a scenario? Check it out @

So anyway the MI STEM Center will have laboratories replete with video conferencing capabilities and of course tools to build things with including test stands etc.The paricipants will be able to enter shop class form anywhere on the planet and help build the outcome. They also can visit shop anytime to study what has taken place and to add to the body of science.Somehow they will be able to enter a virtual reality to heighten their awareness of interacting physically with the project. Makes sense?

Outstanding commentary and alignment to vision-purpose. However, I believe you mean Student Studio-Labs when you refer to shop class.
We are beginning to gain more critical-mass as we speak.
